| Synthesis | Morocco has a considerable, rich and diverse architectural heritage. This heritage, built over millennia by successive dynasties, was the expression of its architectural identity. It constituted an integral component of the history of its civilizations. Throughout the ages, several Moroccan monuments or historical buildings were left abandoned and did not benefit from any interest whatsoever or from any protection effort. This is due to the deficiency of the notion of heritage which was lacking and which could in the long run deprive us of an essential component of our collective memory. Since the adoption by UNESCO of the World Heritage Convention in 1972, several experiments carried out throughout the world have demonstrated the economic interest in promoting heritage. It is in this context this scientific meeting in an urgent appeal emphasizing the urgency of mobilizing the scientific community. Researchers from both shores of the Mediterranean are therefore invited to become more involved in raising awareness among populations. The authorities as well as all stakeholders are also invited to reflect on the methods necessary for better protection and effective development of threatened architectural heritage. The debate on the technical aspects of its restoration and rehabilitation will thus contribute to safeguarding and enriching the heritage of humanity. |
